Greater Alabama Council's 25th Anniversary

As December crept closer into view in 1997, excitement began to grow across North and Central Alabama.  Soon, the Choccolocco Area Council, the Central Alabama Council, and the Tennessee Valley Council would formally merge to create the Greater Alabama Council.

With an effective Charter date of January 1, 1998, the Greater Alabama Council is celebrating twenty-five years of adventure, service, and developing young people to become the citizens our nation needs.  We invite you to join us this year as we mark a quarter century of Scouting in north and central Alabama.

Anniversary Banquet: November 11, 2023 at 6:30pm!

We invite you and your family to join us as we celebrate our Silver Anniversary with a banquet beneath the awe-inspiring Saturn V Rocket at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville!   At the banquet, we will be recognizing our 25th Anniversary Eagle Scout Class, the 2023 Silver Beaver Class, Adult and Youth religious award recipients, volunteer Scouters with at least 25 years of service, and more!  We are also excited about the keynote address from LTG Daniel Karbler, commanding general of the U.S. Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command!

Pre-registration is required for the banquet event.  Walk-up registrations are not possible.  Early Bird registration and pricing ends on September 30th, and Regular Registration and pricing begins on October 1st.

Commemorative patch program

Available beginning at the February Camporee!

During 2023, Scouts and Scouters are able to earn a ribbon that can be placed on the 25th Anniversary Pocket Patch.  To earn a ribbon, Scouts and Scouters should attend a program or event at each of the Council properties.  Scouts and Scouters can also pay a visit to the two offices (Huntsville and Birmingham) and pick up a ribbon from the receptionist desk for the office.

The patch, seen here, is available for purchase at the Council Service Centers (NOT the Scout Shops), or at select events (marked with an * below) for $5.00.  The ribbons are free of charge and will be available at event check-in.
