I hope this letter finds you well!
As a Scout Leader, former Scout, or friend of our movement we are reaching out to you today because Comer Scout Reservation and our Camp Ranger need your help. Will you help us buy a new truck for Comer Scout Reservation?
You understand the significance of the camping program on the youth who come through our program. Scouts who regularly camp develop self-reliance and resourcefulness, enhance their spiritual growth, strengthen social development, and of course learn positive citizenship. Camps are the mechanism to heighten these skills and much more. The Greater Alabama Council is proud to operate five camping properties where Scouts can learn and grow, and we continually look for ways to improve our properties.
Comer Scout Reservation, our most visited camp, is one of these properties where Scouts learn new things, overcome challenges, and fun occurs on a weekly basis. During 2018 over 8,000 people attended Comer Scout Reservation for weekend camping, training opportunities, and long-term camping. Each one of these individuals got to see Scouting at its best in the outdoors.
With the number of people passing through the camp each year the camp must be maintained by a full-time ranger. His work is vital to keeping Comer Scout Reservation in a state that allows us to run weekend and summer programs for both youth and adult volunteers, giving them the best kept and maintained facilities to enjoy our programs. Many of you know Bryan Bobo and the hard work and dedication he puts in everyday at camp. With this work comes considerable wear to vehicles used at camp. We are at a point where we need a new truck for Bryan that meets the needs and demands of maintaining our camp.
I write to you today as a friend of our Scouting program to ask for help in raising the funds needed to purchase a new truck for Comer Scout Reservation. Your gift will ensure that our ranger has a proper vehicle to perform the daily maintenance and travel needed to adequately keep our camp looking pristine for you and your Scouts.
Enclosed is a card and envelope for your use in making a gift. There are recommended giving levels, but any gift is appreciated toward this project. As we ask for this donation please do not forget your Friends of Scouting gift, to your district or council, in your annual giving planning.
Thank you for your continued support of the Scouting program and our camp properties.
Yours in Scouting,
George Elliott
